Unbroken reaches the top of the world

In May 2021, Unbroken reached 8,849 metres above sea level. Icelandic professional mountain guide Siggi Bjarni Sveinsson carried Unbroken on his expedition to Mount Everest, where he and Heimir Fannar Hallgrímsson successfully reached the summit on 23 May.

Real Time Recovery at extreme altitude

The journey to Everest was much more than the final push to the summit. Siggi and his team spent weeks at altitude, trekking more than 150 km and gaining over 10,000 metres in elevation, much of it above 4,000 metres. With packs weighing around 20 kg and limited access to nutrition, recovery became an important part of managing each day.

At altitude, appetite can fall just as the physical demands increase. Unbroken's compact tablet format made it possible to carry amino acid nutrition without adding significant weight or volume, and Siggi says it was the only protein nutrition the team had access to during the climb.

Even members of the Sherpa team began using Unbroken, with Siggi recalling that they would ask for it before particularly demanding days.

From Iceland to Everest

For a young Icelandic brand still in the early years of its journey, seeing Unbroken carried all the way to the summit of the world's highest mountain was a special milestone.

From the CrossFit Games to the top of Everest, Real Time Recovery had reached an entirely new height.
